Evenin' All. I am colour blind. I see colours, but obviously not at the resolutions that others see them. If I try to do the training courses that make electricians, I am refused the opportunity, because out of the 20 odd spotty circles, I only see numbers on one or two of them. This and mild myopia are what stopped me from becoming a full size commercial pilot. Anyhow, getting to the point, I am modifying an FVK Mistral Electric model, and have changed the wing colours to try to improve visibility of the model in a variety of atmospheric conditions, and to quickly regain vis, should I need to take my eyes off it for a second. I have made the outer tips black top and bottom, the topside main tip panel light purple chrome, ailerons red top and bottom, underside main tip panel opaque red. The centre panel is all white, with reflective holographic film in patches on the flaps. Also, so that I can follow lift a long way down wind and be sure that I will be able to see the model as it presents itself to me nose on, for the journey back to the field, I thought I would ask what others would recommend for the leading edges to maximise visibility? Sorry to hear of your visual problems jef. Orientation is hard enough with perfect eyesight ! In the past I have used some of the fluorescent coloured film coverings to good effect. I know Profilm do orange, green and pink. All VERY high viz. Another thought I had, but i`ve never used them, is some of the latest model aircraft LED lights that seem to be very popular now Would that be a possibility?
Cheers Kev

Morning Everyone, In my opinion it does not matter what colour/s you have or how bright you go, the model still looks dark when flying, i always have a striped bottom now so when i turn i can see it better, but like Kev siad i would concider Neon Orange or somethink along them lines I will also add i do like bright colours anyway, it's good to be different

Hi J + K The leading edge nearly had some fluourescent colour spray paint bought for it today on the way home from work. I say "nearly", because the AutoCare shop in the village used to stock said fluourescent colours, but nowadays they only do colours that appear on modern cars. Anyone know where to buy really bright coloured paints? Jef

Cheers Kev.
Interestingly, one of the websites is showing nil stock of any of the fluourescents. I wonder if they have particularly nasty Health & Safety issues, and they are off production. Let's hope not.
Have decided to go for a neon pink leading edge - if I can get the paint.
Trying B&Q now...

Evenin' each, The colour is on the centre section, but the finish is not good enough yet, so I will give it a rub down and another coat sometime. I thought it would look really awful with the red, black and purple-chrome tips. Not as bad as I was expecting but, like I said, I am colourblind. Here is what it looks like now...

Hi jef, glad to see you`re cracking on with it. Out of curiosity, are you spraying straight from the can or do you have a spray gun?
Keep us posted Kev

Hi Kev. I sold my spraying equipment and nowadays spray straight from the tin. Before I start though, I heat the tin up to about 50 deg C (and shake the tin for a couple of minutes).

hi jef, you read my thoughts , that`s exactly what I was going to suggest when spraying from a tin.

hi jef, you read my thoughts , that`s exactly what I was going to suggest when spraying from a tin. Have flatted the wing and am about to apply (hopefully) the last coat. Tin warming as I type.
