Last coat was certainly not perfect, but is good enough and a vast improvement on the first (3rd : coat. At last got round to covering the second wingtip today, and have programmed the Tx, so the big wing should be ready for maidening when the weather starts to play ball. AUW 2.33kg Here's a pic -

Wow, that`s a nice looking machine jef. You should feel pleased with that and lets hope the weather does improve soon so you can get that all important first flight under your belt.
All the best Kev

Keep looking at the beautiful 3.4m model, which really is just begging to be flown, then looking at the weather, and wondering if the weather is going to let me fly it some time soon.
Having said that, Sunday looks good for a bit of sloping at Thurnham in Kent (an hour away). Maybe it will be a good day for maidening the FlyFly Fox instead.
It's two months since I last stirred the sticks in anger and I really "feel the need... the need for speed". So I will be taking the Calypso Contest, with all the ballast, too.
Hope we can all get out this weekend.

Evening all......that makes three of us at least that are cheesed off with the weather and need to stir the sticks. I keep going into the work shop to just hold the Tx and fiddle with me sticks and knobs..... It WILL get better.....just don`t know when. Chin up. Kev

Well pleased with the Pink colour on the centre span of the Miss Tra Lee... lost sight against the blue during the launch. First thing I saw in the brilliant sunshine was the pink (which really stood out against the blue background). The purple and black tips were invisible for a moment! As the pink is only on the top surface, I knew how the model was oriented, and that is greatly reassuring when you have lost and regained visual contact. Jef

After many years at this game I have found the best for visibility is a Black fuselage with Red transparent Profilm.
Yellow is best avoided unless striped underneath as is white with out contrast in stripes

The purpose of getting the FVK Mistral was for it to be an F5J weapon. Last Sunday, on the model's third flying session, she showed her prowess in the lower launch class... with a second place against some very tough opposition.
However, grabbing the launch height data (from the onboard altimeter) at the end of every flight, found the model's removable nose cone design to be wanting, as this proved to be unnecessarily labour intensive, and I was in danger of losing the cross head screw that holds the cone in place.
Since then, I have cut a hatch in the nose cone, just for disconnecting the motor LiPo, getting the altimeter data and turning on / off the receiver supply.
Luckily, I was able to use the part I cut out as the hatch cover, but I moulded a new one on the nose cone before taking a knife to it. Also before cutting anything, I moulded a flange - constructed with lightweight chopped strand mat and lightweight glass cloth and 5 minute epoxy. After cutting the carbon Kevlar nose cone, I then cyano'd the flange inside the cone and fitted the cover with a piano wire retainer, held in place with more glass and rapid Araldite.
Looking forward to the next F5J comp, but might get some practise in the mean time! Like I said, I have only flown the 3.4m model on three occasions, so with a bit of practise... who knows?

Flew the Mistral today, in the best conditions of this year so far. Visibility was great, when the sun caught the top of the centre panel it was stunningly bright. The hatch is perfect for the job of rx power on/off, LiPo connect/disconnect and altimeter reading. Here's the trace of the first flight with the new hatch... Attachments:
