Hello Everyone. A few months ago i brought a scale glider as i wanted a winter project to work on ready for spring/summer next year, i found a Grunau Baby 1:3rd scale which needed recovering and fitting out out with radio gear etc. So now i have made some progress on it i thought it would be good post a few pictures on here of the progress and to let people see how things are going so far. I have fitted servoless spoilers (HobbyKing) which look very neat and very easy to fit and setup, i have reglued (PVA) most of the joints again as some looked not to have taken, and now using light weight filler to seal some dings and marks in the wood. Please feel free to post your comments The pictures below was how it looked when i brought it . Attachments:

Hey JG, that's cheating! Bought an already-built airframe, did you?!? Just think of all the fun you're missing, with dust, shavings, dust, glue fumes, and the dust; just the thing for all those cold winter days spent at the bench! Cool project, though. Are you going to use fabric and keep the classic flavor of the glider? This one deserves it, I should think. More pictures, please! soarguy

Hello Soarguy. Yes i brought the aeroframe and added the servoless air brakes and i am now filling a few gaps with light filler, as for covering yes i am going to do Solartex but not sure if i should do White or Antique colour. I do have a few more projects in the pipe line, which will be full builds

Nice project.
Just to show my ignorance, I have no idea what span the full size Grunau Baby is. What size is your model JG?
Best regards,
Jef (Ott)

Hello Jef My Grunau Baby has a 178" wing span making it approx 1:3 scale, at the moment i am working on the ailerons regluing and adding a few strips of balsa, the next job will be the servo mounting in the fuselage.

Yep.....remember this one well, you beat me to it by about an hour, on a personal note, I know it didn't have airbrakes fitted and if I'd have purchased it I would not have fitted them, such a big boxy frame won't be travelling fast enough to warrant brakes, time will tell. Mr Slow. lol.

Hi admin, could you explain how servoless airbrakes work please? Am I been thick or is just because it`s something I`ve never come across? Thanks

Hello Anthony, I have to say it is a very nice model to work, and i have had to reglue nearly every joint on it again and also replace a few bits along the way, it just waiting to have the final sand down then covering. As for air brakes i was not going to bother but i was told it would be a good idea to fit some, i suppose if i did not have any then i may wish i did, just one of them things, it should stop the float on landing and them walk of shame to fetch your model

Thanks Evening Kevin The airbrakes work with a small electric motor which is fitted to them, very time saving and seem to work well, but i know a few people have had problems with them.

I have seen them in the "flesh" and they look OK. If gluing most of the joints and a recover is all that is needed then it's the sale of the century.... but then you new that on purchase, a maiden in the Spring then...?
