Hi everyone, I`m trying very hard to save my pennies for my next model, but not sure what to get. I like building so would prefer a kit. My last venture was scratch built from a plan but due to health issues, I found it very hard and it took a long time to complete.
As I already have two wooden `floaters` (and an epp pylon racer) I want something that will fly in STRONG winds preferably without ballast and with aileron`s.
So far I`m thinking: Chris foss Phase 6 (old school I know but I do like them) Chris foss Middle phase-advanced-(I would glass it to add strength and weight for those high winds) Cambrian Models Breguet 905 'Fauvette' (not sure how it would handle strong winds, but I like the look of it)
So, any thoughts/advice folks ? Many thanks Kev

Hi Kev, the Phase 6 seems a good idea, don't think the Fauvette would handle big winds but would be a nice summer sniffer. Ant.

Hi Ant, have to agree with your comments. The phase 6 is an old but well proven design. I`m hoping someone in the know can shed some light on the Fauvette with regards to its strong wind capabilities. Cheers Kev.

Hi Kev, If my memory serves me right, the Cambrian Fauvette is a small built up V tail scale model, I would imagine its flight envelope would be around 5-12mph. Ant.

Hello Ant. I`ve copied and pasted some details below
Fauvette Wing Span 1.8m (72")
Av weight 1.42kg (3lb 2oz)
L.O.A .99m (39")
Wing area 35.9 sq.dm (558 sq.in.)
Wing loading 13 ozs/sq.ft
It also states: "A superb, aerobatic, slope soarer that can be flown with confidence in both light and strong wings".
........and the Phase 6 details are: Wing Span 66 inches / 1676mm . Wing Area 540 sq.in
Wing Loading 11ozs/sq ft
Approx weight 42oz / 1190gm
Would I be right in thinking the higher AUW and/or wing loading, the better it will handle stronger winds ? or is it not as simple as that....lol
Cheers Kev

.....just to add to the fun, below are the details for middle phase advanced: Wing Span 61 inches / 1549mm Wing Area 450 sq. in Wing Loading 11ozs/sq ft Weight 34ozs / 963gm ...smaller wing area, same wing loading as p6 but lighter........unless I fully glassed it and it`s about £15 cheaper. I think i`m starting to confuse myself now.....

Hi Kev, I'm surprised the AUW of the Fauvette is that high, maybe it can handle bigger wind. 20yrs ago when my local hobby shop had a closing down sale (Dennis Martin) everything was half price, I had a choice of a Middle Phase or the Fauvette, I chose the MP because of the easy build. As regards the Phase 6, many a good flyer today cut their teeth on these in the days when there were very few and expensive moulded gliders, does the book at a comfortable pace, try both. Ant.

Hi JG, yes I have seen that p6. That too is in my watch list. As you say, it does require some work and I`m guessing that on closer inspection, it may require more than can be seen!! To be honest tho, that doesn`t bother me. I`d enjoy putting it back together and I would glass the fuz anyway,so i`ll see how the bidding goes as it will cost me around £25+ in fuel to collect it. Thanks for spotting it anyway. Hope you`re feeling better now Kev

Hi everyone, don`t know if i`m been too fuzzy but decided not to bid any higher on the other p6. I just felt that with the cost of fetching it etc. I`d rather wait. Oh well, looking is all part of the fun. Catch you soon.....
