All,
I am working on TopModel's Astra V glider for the coming season. The design is pod and boom fuselage, and the instructions call for the wing to be at 1 degree, and the v-tail at 0 degrees. Problem is, there is no referance datum line given...
Am I correct in thinking that, as long as there is a +1 degree differance in the wing in relation to the tail, all should be well?
Thanks for all ideas,
soarguy

Hello Soarguy, I don`t have an answer for you to be honest, but rest assured there are folk on here who will know and hopefully enlighten you. All the best Kev. ps: just a thought but would it be worth emailing Topmodel`s to ask them ?

Hi Kev,
Yep, sure enough; I e-mailed them early today. I am in the US, they are in eastern Europe, so I figure they won't see the message until tomorrow, and I just wanted to have it 'out there' in case someone else has dealt with this issue already. We'll see what they say...
Thanks for the reply!

If it has a tapered boom (not all booms are tapered) and the bottom of the wing section is parallel with the top of the boom, and the centre of the tailplane section is parallel with the bottom of the boom, that will be very close to the required 1 degree of decalage.
It would be good to hear what the manufacturer says though... Alignment of a vee-tail is often a very tricky process.
Best regards,
Jef

Jef,
Your estimation regarding boom taper is just about right. I did get a reply from TopModel, and am told that the datum is the center line [axis] of the tube; so, it should not be a huge deal to jig the fuse up and get accurate measurements.
To the bench!
