Hello Everyone.
At the moment the forums are closed to guests and open to members, and i know of 1 member would like the site to be open to all that is viewing it, which mean people will be able to seee and read the posts in the forums but not reply.
What are peoples thought on this do we open up or keep it private ?

Hi JG,
I`ve not really been involved with a forum until now, so I don`t know what the pro`s and con`s are for open v private.
Perhaps you could expand on that ?

Kevin - If the forum was open anyone can see the posts in the site but can not reply until they join, so having open site may get more members, if it's private no one can see the posts until there members which means they maybe no posts on the site so people think it's not worth joining, i made it private because i did not want people just reading the posts, but some members don't like it that way so thought i would post this to see what reponse i get  |

ok, thanks for that JG,
My feelings then, are that if it means more possible members on an open forum, then I don`t see why not and as you say, they have to join to actually post
I guess that if you wanted to say/ask something `privately` then you can pm that person.

JG,
I can not see any possible reason not to have the forum open for interested parties to read.
Many people 'lurk' on the various forums before becoming active.
If, as in this case, they are unable to see anything that may interest them or encourage them to join in they will just hit the 'red X' and go to one of the other long established Silent Flight forums. ie BARCS, eSoaring, SSUK, FlyQuiet etc.
I am sure if you changed your mind and opened up - you would find the forum would soon get busier and grow much more quickly.
We will see how the vote goes........
