Had a great day up on the slope at Thurnham today, 31 12 14.
A couple of models spiralled in though.
I learnt a long time ago, that when the sun is low in the sky, disorientation is a common problem. Even when you are positive that you are not disoriented, if your model starts to spiral in, let go of the sticks and as the model straightens into a dive pulling up will usually save it!
If the model has dropped its right tip and your brain is telling you it has dropped its left tip, your reaction will be forcing the right tip down faster, the faster it drops the further you drive the stick.
For some reason vee-tail models with little dihedral appear to be affected the worst, although the other tail forms do suffer the effects in poor or low level (winter) lighting too.
Good Luck in the New Year with whatever you fly.
