Too windy to stay at home. So I am having another trip to the south downs tomorrow.

With the help of the "Slope Soaring Sussex" group, discovered the NW facing side of Ditchling Beacon today. Every bit as good as the NE side. Less walking than Firle or Bo Peep. Snow on the ground and 25mph winds gusting over 40mph, the Calypso Contest, fully laden. Fabulous Fun in the Sunshine. Bit blustery and the first launch was a non-starter. Thump. A quick re-tape of the tip joints, a check of the structure and controls and away it went on the second attempt without any turbulence at all. Lift was reliable and widespread, throughout the 70 minute flight. I found the landing easier here than at Devil's Dyke, Ditchling 'Eastside' and Bo Peep. No rotor turbulence where I went. Long grass. No rocks. Some snow. Downside is the full size gliding activity - which started at about noon. No problem parking when I arrived at 09.30am and the Car Park still had spaces at 1pm when I was leaving, having had my most exhilarating slope session, ever. Jef

Five of us met up on the Wrecker slope of the Bwlch, South Wales yesterday. We were greeted by 15 mph wind and awsome lift, it was a little chilly to start off but it got rather pleasant in the spring sun as the day wore on. A good selection of models being flown ranging from Spook & Wild Thing foamies to top end f3f models. I flew my scratch build Impala PSS model. A great day had by all.
